Caroline is convinced that the world is meant to be explored, discovered and experienced, and that inspiration bubbles to the surface when one embraces the world. Her passionate engagement with life radiates whether she is climbing glaciers in Patagonia, exploring tropical rainforests or playing basketball with her kids. An avid biker and lover of the great outdoors, Caroline often sees riding along Lake Michigan as an opportunity to dive in. She has dabbled in improv theatre, but her first joy is the collecting and telling of good stories.
Back in 1992 (the year she founded PortiCo Research), Caroline's vision led her to bring her background in sociology, anthropology, clinical psychology and family counseling into consumers' living rooms where she could get a sense of what deeply matters to them. She loves engaging with the consumer in their own everyday world, whether they are shopping or going to the doctor. This is rivaled by her love of sharing ideas with the PortiCo team, coming up with implications and imaging ways in which the client can meet the customer's desire for meaning.
Before starting PortiCo, Caroline worked as marketing director for Stony Lodge Hospital, Briarcliff Manor where she executed recommendations for short and long-term marketing strategies, aided new product development and sought out new directions for advertising to explore. Her five years as a family, group and individual therapist hone her ability to see the interconnections between these various contexts of human experience-a perspective that has proven invaluable in her ethnographic research.
